Self-Care Rituals: To Unwind & Reconnect With Yourself

Updated: Oct 19, 2022

We all know self-care is so important, but sometimes it’s easy to forget to actually practice it. With work, life and social gatherings filling our calendars, the week can sometimes fly by before we even realize it. And listen, self-care doesn’t always have to be massages, mani-pedis, facials, wine and getaways… It can be simple practices such as calming your mind, fueling your body, saying “no”, leaving work on time, logging off social media, and exiting unhealthy situations.

Practicing these rituals of intentional self-care on your journey of healing and inner well being gives us the time to breathe, restore and balance our energy. It helps us reduce anxiety and stress, and a safe place to retreat from the sometimes very loud chatter of our mind.

When thinking about self-care it is important to look after all aspects of the 'self', including mind, body and spirit. Feel free to enjoy these self-care tips:

Self-care for the mind

  • Attend therapy or a support group

  • Burn incense, while practicing mindfulness

  • Keep a gratitude journal; write down your thoughts and feelings

  • Listen to enriching podcasts by other Black women

Self-care for the body

  • Take 5-10 minutes out each day to stretch or practice yoga

  • Take a bath or shower with candles lit and the lights off

  • Dance like nobody's watching

  • Sing your fav’ song like nobody's listening

Self-care for the spirit

  • Take 5-10 minutes out each day to meditate

  • Pray and connect with your higher power (s)

  • Use aromatherapy, while practicing affirmations

  • Connect with nature, give your plants some tender care and love, garden, put your hands in soil
